Cardio-Metabolic Exercise Profile (Cyclists & Triathletes)

“No Other Test Provides You With As Much Valuable Information About Your Unique Exercise Metabolism and How To Maximize Your Level Of Endurance and Sustainable Power on the Bike!

The Fit Stop is a mobile Human Performance Lab providing state-of-the-art fitness testing and guidance programs for competitive cyclists and non-competitive alike. If you are serious about your training then the Cardio-Metabolic Exercise Profile will provide you with the individualized feedback and a systematic approach to maximize your endurance while minimizing the risk from over-training.

The Assessment takes place cycling on a bike ergometer (the Velotron) while a metabolic analyzer measures the amount of your oxygen and carbon dioxide that is taken in and extracted with each breath. From this unique information, objective markers for exercise capacity are mapped and evaluated. Outcomes reveal measures of your cardiovascular endurance, power output levels, power to weight ratio, and energy expenditure rates which can help you evaluate the proper progression and effectiveness of your training.

Specific testing outcomes include:

Maximum oxygen consumption – usually referred to as VO2Max or the maximum amount of oxygen you can take in, transport and use at an all out effort. For endurance sports a high VO2Max is often considered ‘prerequisite” for good performance.  "The Size of Your Engine".

Oxygen economy – oxygen consumption at a given power output and reveals how energy efficient your body is while cycling. Lactate threshold – or sometimes referred to as anaerobic threshold. LT is the exercise intensity at which lactate begins to accumulate in the blood and it becomes more and more difficult to maintain a steady state the higher your intensity rises above the LT. Fractional utilization – oxygen consumption at lactate threshold. Power at Lactate Threshold - this is the most important physiological determinant of endurance cycling performance. Peak Power Output - this is your power output at VO2Max. Other testing profiles for cyclists:

Anaerobic or Peak Power Testing - The Fit Stop conducts Wingate Power Testing on a Velotron Bike Ergometer. During this test your will be instructed to pedal as fast as possible for 30 seconds.  Peak power generated, time to reach peak power, mean (average) power, peak rpm, average rpm, and your fatigue index can all be determined from the Wingate power test. This test is especially critical for sprinters and criterion racers. Your measures are compared with other riders to help determine your current strengths and weaknesses in a sprint. Strong sprinters can generate over 1600 watts and well trained sprinters can sustain those higher power outputs for a longer duration.
